We are a Saturday Morning football training club that was formed back in 1998 when our founder Tim Sadler realised that most local junior football clubs were discarding players of lesser ability who were then unable to take part in the game that they loved. In addition, most of the local junior football clubs were not taking players until they were eight or nine years of age, therefore reducing the opportunity for kids to play.
In an area of Chesterfield identified as being disadvantaged, and on a school field hired at a favourable charge by Newbold Community School the club was formed. With the school requiring the land for a new building the club moved its venue to near by Highfield Park in August 2003 with kind permission from Chesterfield Borough Council. The club provides football training and coaching for boys and girls of all abilities aged from five to fifteen years old. Youngsters at an early age are coached the basic skills such as ball control, passing, dribbling, heading, shooting and running with the ball. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment of the game, having said that we have produced a ‘conveyor belt’ of talent for local clubs. A number of players have been signed by local professional clubs Chesterfield, Derby County, Mansfield Town, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday whilst hundreds of our members have joined the regions junior amateur clubs, which include the newly formed Chesterfield Town.
Whilst we do not play competitive games against other clubs we hold Mini World Cup Competitions on the last Saturday of each month and we regularly hold other events such as the recent ‘Lets kick racism out of football’ awareness day. We regularly give out prizes and trophies and we have a prestigious ‘Player of the Year Award’. Diego De Girolamo was our winner in 2002 and he has recently signed for Sheffield United and has appeared for the England Under 8’s team. The weekly awards are given for players who display good behaviour, discipline, improvement and teamwork. Our efforts have been rewarded by the Football Association who in 2004 awarded us new equipment under their ‘Free Kicks Scheme’. The Royal Mail Sports Foundation and RAC Auto Windscreens have provided us with training equipment as recognition for the services that we have provided for the local community and recently the Club was granted an award under the 'Barclays Spaces for Sport' scheme. We have a number of F.A. qualified coaches and first aiders to look after our membership which is currently over one hundred. There is no membership fee but we do charge a fee of £2.00 per session. The sessions take place every Saturday morning from 9.30 to 11.30am and we do hold additional summer sessions at the same venue on Wednesday evenings.
