Charity Day...CHESTERFIELD TOWN FC - CHARITY DAY Sunday 11th May 2008.The sun shone brightly on our Annual Charity Day and the crowds were treated to some great action. Teams from Arkwright Community, Charnock Ridgeway, Sheffield Rangers, Sheffield United Junior Blades and Wingerworth JSA provided opposition for some of our junior teams whilst others chose to play other teams from within our Club. Our ever increasing 'Feeder Squad' kicked-off the action with their normal Sunday morning training routine under the guidance of Adrian Dickenson and Steve Sharp. Our Under 6's team entertained a strong Sheffield Rangers outfit in a game won by our South Yorkshire counterparts. Our Under 7's Team were busy winning the Wickersley Tournament and therefore did not take part whilst our Under 8's Team proved too strong for Charnock Ridgeway. The Club's newly crowned Sheffield League Under 9's champions, entertained a strong Greenhill and Lowedges team and were beaten with our Under 9's Rowsley Team going down 3-1 to Arkwright. Carl Rimmington's Rowsley Under 8's Team faced a late change of opponents and tasted defeat to a team made up from players of various other teams. Fresh from their appearance in the Derbyshire Girls League Cup final our Girls Under 10's Team were in action concluding the Mini-Soccer games. At 11-A-side level Sheffield United Junior Blades proved too good for our Under 10's Sheffield League Team whilst our Under 10's Rowsley League Team, playing their first ever 11-A-side game were beaten by Wingerworth JSA. Chesterfield Town 13's Whites marked their improvement with a win over our Under 12's team whilst an intriguing match saw our Under 14's Team take on Tony Booker's Under 13's Rowsley League Division 3 Champions. After a 3-3 draw, in a very entertaining game, Trevor Higginbottom's boys came through in a penalty shoot out. With their managerial and coaching duties over the Select XI took to the field against our Yourth Team in the final match of the day, which was played in almost blistering heat. Here fifteen year-old Chris Pashley helped himself to a hat-trick and with Mark Vine adding two more the youngsters ran out 5-0 winners. The scoreline did not did not reflect the game though as the Select XI prompted by Richard Simpson and player manager Simon Dixon played some nice football and created numerous chances. At the other end Barry Aldridge and Daz Cotterill produced some fine saves whilst centre back Phil Church stood out. The superior fitness of the Youth Team in the heat took its toll though proving a little too much for the spirited Select XI. The game, like all played on the day, was played in great spirit with referee Tony Booker, the Club Chairman, not having to reach for a card all afternoon. Winners on the day were everyone who attended plus the Special Baby Care Unit at Calow Royal Hospital, who benefited from a £400-00 donation from the Club. A few photos from the Charity Day:
