CHESTERFIELD TOWN MASTERS 2011

16th July - Stand Road Park

As part of the Friends of Stand Road Park Gala Day the club's second 'Master's event made up from parents, managers and coaches from our individual teams, took place on Saturday 16th July.

After a wet morning matches got under way on time with five teams taking part. As with the previous year, the format was that each of the five teams played the other teams once on a league basis with the top two teams then contesting the final.

The first match saw the ‘battle’ of our Under 9’s teams and with Lee Forester starring Jason Carr’s Juniors side beat Steve Sharp’s side 3-0. Chris Clarke’s Under 12’s side then played out a 0-0 draw with Chris Topham’s Under 10’s. Dean Hancock’s Under 13’s got into the action but found Steve Sharp’s team too much going down 2-0. Matches after this were all very tight affairs. Players were tiring by the time half of the league games had been completed and there were some ‘cheeky’ loan signings being made as the same players seemed to be popping up in various teams!

By the end of the group stages incredibly three of the five teams were tied at the top of the table on seven points yet the only unbeaten side Chris Topham’s Under 10’s were eliminated after drawing all four games and finishing on four points.

With the places in the final being decided on goal difference Steve Sharp’s side were unlucky to miss out as Jason Carr’s team contested the final against Chris Clarke’s side.

With the pace in the final ‘slowing’ and neither side scoring the teams decided to forgo the offer of extra-time and go straight to a penalty shoot out. Here ‘loan’ signing Steve Hancock was in fine form in goal for Chris Clarke’s side who duly completed the win despite Jason Carr lashing home his spot kick to keep his team’s hopes alive.

Chairman of Friends of Stand Road Park Graham King made the presentation to the winning captain Mark Rogers of our Under 12’s Rowsley League team.

Reports of our Charity Day's that have taken place in previous years can be found in the links that follow.

The 2012 Masters has been provisionally booked for Saturday 30th June to coincide once again with the Friends of Stand Road Gala Day.
