As part of the Friends of Stand Road Park Gala Day the club put together what is hoped will be its annual 'Masters Tournament'. This involved teams made up from parents, managers and coaches from our individual teams. In all only a disappointing five teams took part in the inaugural event but there was some competitive football on show as the players attempted to roll back the years! The first match up saw our Under 13's take on our Under 8's and in a game where keepers Barry Aldridge and Andy Papworth were in fine form the game ended 2-2. Next up were our Under 11's Rowsley team beating our Under 9's team with our Over 35's team striker Dave Martin making all the difference up front. Barry Aldridge's Under 13's team then beat our Under 11's Sheffield side 1-0 in an entertaining game. As the legs
grew wearier the five teams continued to play each other once in a bid
to find the top two teams who would then contest the final. All five teams
won at least one game as the competition grew tighter as it went on. Daz
Cotterill's Under 9's team's squad rotation policy eventually worked with
them looking fresher in their last league game when they beat our Under
8's 3-1 as Steve Sharp struggled to rally his tired troops. Our Under
13's side continued to pick up the points and with two wins and two draws
made it into the final. The second final place was decided in an 'ill
tempered' game between our two Under 11's teams in which Jez Fox's Sheffield
team ran out 2-0 winners to clinch their place in the 'Masters Final'.
After a big
thanks to Alan Robinson for refereeing all of the games Graham King the
Chairman of the Friends of Stand Road Park group presented the 'Masters
Trophy' to winning captain Barry Aldridge.
